Winter Evensong

  • Northcote Uniting Church 251 High Street Northcote, VIC, 3070 Australia (map)

A couple of hymns, the choir is going to sing Jesu Joy of Man’s Desiring, Alister is going to have a bash at what might be the most challenging reading in the entire Bible - the Binding of Isaac and then we’ll go to the pub. What’s not to like?

We invite you to join us as, through beautiful music, silence, and hearing the word, we are invited into the presence of God.

Evensong is a rich, deep, beautiful tradition of sacred choral music. Its form comes from the re-ordering of worship after Henry VIII dissolved the monasteries in the 16th Century. Evensong was part of a simplification and consolidation of the monastic system of praying five times a day.

Over time, we will thoughtfully contextualise this ancient tradition to the reality of life in 21st Century Northcote.
