Tuesday Gathering

What does it mean to have a meaningful, truly human life? Is it really true that life is just work – eat - social media – sleep – repeat until you die? Is everyone just trying to sell you something? Is it possible to talk about God at all in this COVID wracked contemporary world with its atomisation and superficiality and consumerism?

At Northcote UCA, we think that meaningful life comes in community. We think that it is not only possible, but vital to have non-transactional, non-mediated community where the real you can encounter the real me. And that now is the perfect time to talk about God.

Jesus is the lens through which we see God: this is our starting point.

We think that the way forward is to re-appropriate the resources of our Christian tradition which are both respectful of our history, and also comprehensible to our culture. We value community. We are working together to chart a way forward through this new situation in which our culture finds itself. We take ideas seriously. We think everyone has something to contribute. We are a welcoming space for people of differing gender and sexual identities. We take the Gospel seriously, and seek to apply it to our lives.

We meet (almost) every Tuesday night at 7 for dinner. Bring your meal, bring a beer, and unpack your day. We do different things, often a discussion, generally a Bible study. Once a month – usually the third Tuesday – we have a break from the talk with a contemplative communion service, using silence, prayer, and music.
